Mare Boarding

The start of every great racehorse is its dam.  And the care and attention given to all the mares at Amaroo reflects that sentiment.  All aspects of mare care are emphasized; herd health, reproductive success, and individual health and happiness (yes, happiness!) are paramount here at Amaroo.  With focus on the basics (farriers, dentists, vaccines and deworming) mares are kept in peak condition throughout the year and before-during-and after every pregnancy.

Foaling

Amaroo’s broodmare barn is ideal for foaling with its large stalls (12′ x12′), concrete block walls (easily disinfected), and four stalls equipped with cameras to assist staff with monitoring expectant mares and new foals around the clock.  The barn is surrounded by a round pen, 4 small paddocks, 4 medium paddocks, 2 large paddocks, and a large field allowing for gradual turn-out of young foals.

Amaroo is staffed by an experienced foaling crew, and all foalings are attended by manager Jamie Frost.  In case of difficulties during foaling, the barn is fully equipped with oxygen and emergency drugs.  Having a vet living on the property is also a plus!  Our location, only minutes from the top veterinary clinics in the world (Hagyard Equine Medical Institute, Rood and Riddle Eqine Hospital , and Parks Equine Hospital), also allows for rapid emergency transport (our trailer is always ready!) to a clinic should the situation arise.

Weanling/Yearling Boarding

At Amaroo, individual attention is given to every horse at all stages of its life.  Of special importance is the rearing of weanlings and yearlings, monitoring their growth and progress as they mature.  Young stock are evaluated constantly, and adjustments made in nutrition, hoof care, turn-out, exercise, and handling to nurture and develop each and every individual at the rate each needs.   Whether the animal is destined for public auction or for breaking/training, Amaroo has the expertise to raise young stock in a manner that allows each to achieve their full potential.

Sales Prep

With decades of experience in preparing yearlings, weanlings, and mares for sales, Jamie Frost is adept at bringing on horses for sale from any stage.  Whether it is from the first day of prep, or for the final weeks prior to sale (for out-of-state animals coming to Kentucky for the last bit of prep), Amaroo is the place for your horse.  With a 6 horse walker, ample paddock space, and staff experienced in handling and prepping all ages.  Horses stabled at Amaroo have been very well received at recent public auctions, including Fasig-Tipton, Saratoga and Keeneland sales.

Straight off the track

Lay-ups

Close proximity of Amaroo to veterinary clinics, equine swimming pools and rehab centers add to the appeal of Amaroo for lay-ups.  Not only does Amaroo have several smaller barns with large stalls and adjacent small areas for turnout, but the experience and expertise of the staff and vets servicing the farm provide the best of care for animals fresh off the track.  Whether its for some R&R or for medical reasons, Amaroo is able to meet and care for every need of the individual.

International Quarantine

Amaroo has housed pre-export and import quarantines since its inception in 2017.  Working with international export companies such as Mersant International and IRT, we have kept horses during their 30-day quarantine prior to export to the European Union.  Horses coming into the States needing quarantine while undergoing CEM testing and prevention protocols have also stayed at Amaroo.  We have areas approprate for mares, weanlings, lay-ups, and yearlings (even those in sales prep!).  We are can provide quarantine stabling for Southern Hemisphere export as well.
